The coast guard keeps an eye on the sea

Coast guard

Welcome Wim!

Technical expert marine pollution control | DG Environment | Marine Environment Service

Wim De Schutter joined DG Environment, Marine Environment Department on 1 March 2023 via an interim contract to replace a colleague. On 1 January 2024, he started work full-time as technical expert in marine pollution control.

Previously, he was chief instructor at North Sea Drones, more specifically for training professional RPAS pilots, mainly with specialisation Police, Fire Brigade, Beach Rescue Service, Navy and various SAR services. He has also been a member of the Voluntary Blankenberg Sea Rescue Service for 40 years, where he is dedicated to providing assistance at sea. This is how Wim came into contact with the MRCC on several occasions.

Both activities give Wim the necessary skills he can use in his current job. He is responsible for robotic equipment such as the ROV and RPAS, and their deployment.

Wim notes that the structure of the Coast Guard is not that simple. Yet it is striking that every discipline consists of motivated people who give their best every day to make this Coast Guard a well-oiled machine. He is proud to be part of it.
